New York State Assembly bill, A778, introduced by Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D – Scarsdale), has many parents asking the question, "Who’s calling the shots?" in their children’s lives. If passed, this bill would require a new vaccination for public school attendance for all students entering the sixth grade, born after January 1, 1994.

New York State’s top insurance regulator issued a November 2008 statement declaring that same-sex couples, who have legally wed outside New York State, must be treated by insurers in the state the same way as opposite-sex married couples. Superintendent Eric Dinallo says, "We expect insurance companies to provide the same rights and benefits to all legally married couples, regardless of the sex of the spouses."
