By Steve Lalor, Chairman, Albany NDP Taskforce On May 7, 2009, the Capital Region held its annual National Day of Prayer event (NDP), at the New York State Capitol, Albany, NY. This year’s event was the best I have experienced in the 15 years I have served as coordinator.
There was a "Concert of Prayer" segment with music, worship and small and large prayer groups. One participant shared with me that her "circle of prayer" included people from seven different congregations, and they all testified to the "sweet presence of God". Others shared their experiences.
The day was overcast and showers were predicted until noon. A prayer alert was sent to intercessors across the state. Not one drop of rain fell to the earth during the gathering. As attendees sang the worship song "Holy is the Lord" and began the line "the earth is filled with His glory", the sun burst through the clouds for almost a full minute. It appeared that God smiled His approval on our worshipping His Son.
All four Capitol Region Christian radio stations did advance promotion of the Capitol Event, and one broadcast it live. State of the art advertising was accomplished by using an electronic marquee and two billboards on Route I-90. The Albany NDP Taskforce offers all the praise and thanks to our glorious Lord and King! "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! …For there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore." (Psalm 133:1, 3b) |

Worship leaders, Isaiah Six, lead in worship and Rev. Jason McGuire of New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms served as emcee. The 55 pastors and 1,000 participants, gathering in unity and bringing their God-given gifts and abilities, felt a special anointing.
Many churches and ministries contributed to the success of the day. Some gave financial assistance, many gave "in-kind services", such as printing, vans with drivers, parking lots, parking lot hosts, web development, maintenance, and many volunteers performed varied tasks. Emmanuel Retreat Center hosted and provided breakfast for the worship group, Isaiah Six, for two nights. The Episcopal Cathedral was available in case it rained. All this and many behind-the-scenes tasks, along with a resourceful and faithful planning committee, contributed to this truly anointed and glorious time of prayer.
