At New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation (NYFRF), we are getting back into the groove of the legislative session, and with it comes the first edition of the 2010 Freedoms’ Alert newspaper. Starting this year, the paper will be arriving in your mailbox on a bimonthly basis. Thank you for your continued readership.
It’s going to be a great year for this ministry, and we are glad to have you on board. The Counter Punch Conference There is no question about it, pro-life and pro-family values have been taking a beating in recent years. Whether you look to the advance of embryonic stem cell research, same-sex marriage, divorce rates, or assaults against parental rights, many would say that the Judeo-Christian worldview is on the ropes. Some would say we were down for the count – but they would be wrong.Who would have thought that same-sex marriage would have been so handily defeated in the State Senate last December? In fact, every piece of legislation that New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms strongly opposed was successfully blocked during the 2009 legislative session. NYFRF is committed to the fact that strong families mean a strong state. This ministry was pleased to see the State Senate reject redefinition of marriage legislation. But now is not the time for Christians, and other conservatives, to sit on their laurels. We spent a great deal of time bobbing, dodging, and weaving in 2009, but in 2010 it’s time we throw a conservative counter punch. You are invited to Albany for NYFRF’s annual Legislative Day Conference on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. Come not only to hear dynamic speakers, but to be trained in confronting the culture, interacting with elected officials, and organizing others in a more meaningful way. This year’s theme is "Counter Punch" – because conservative Christians must be on the offense in 2010. Since today’s students are tomorrow’s voters (and future candidates) every high school student should also attend Teen Track 2010. (Younger students may attend either the Teen Track or the main sessions with one or both parents or a designated adult chaperone.) Under the direction of Mrs. Linda Koenig, participating students will learn how unique the New York State judicial system is, and compare it to our Federal judicial system. In addition to this, participants will be introduced to ways in which students can become a part of the conservative counter punch to the liberal legislative agenda that dominates New York State government.Mrs. Koenig uses PowerPoint presentations, drama, handouts, games and role playing activities to engage students, and make the learning process a memorable one. As I look forward to the Super Bowl, I am reminded that the team that wins is the one that can move the ball down the field. The convictions that many of us share concerning absolute truth, the sanctity of human life, the sacredness of marriage, and parental rights, are worth fighting for, but if we don’t start moving the "ball" down the field, we are going to lose the game. For the sake of my children and future generations, I am not willing to give up on my state, or my nation. Make plans to attend the "Counter Punch" Conference on March 16th.Legislative Prayer Breakfasts Legislative Prayer Breakfasts have resumed at the State Capitol. The breakfasts are held on Tuesdays at 8:00 AM in Room 211A of the Legislative Office Building (LOB). The meetings are open to all legislators and staff in the Capitol complex as well as any other interested parties. The meetings are non-partisan and non-denominational.Coffee and juice is provided, followed by a brief Bible study. A portion of the meeting is dedicated to praying for our state and the personal needs among those represented. The breakfast and Bible studies continue through the legislative session, so if you are in the Capitol or the LOB, please consider dropping in Duane Doing WellFinally, let me update you on our founder, the Rev. Duane Motley. While Duane has stepped down from the leadership of this organization, he still serves as an active member of the NYFRF Board. He is in no means retired, but only "semi-retired," and remains an integral part of who we are as a ministry. During the latter half of 2009, Duane and Nancy Motley went through a journey where Duane was treated for prostate cancer, and then underwent gall bladder surgery. I am pleased to report that Duane has come through both of those experiences, and the prognosis is excellent. We thank the Lord for hearing and answering the prayers of many supporters across the State of New York. God has proven Himself faithful to the Motleys (and this ministry) for decades, and we know that His promises and provision will never fail. Now that Duane has put some recent physical challenges behind him, he continues to travel to Albany each week. We trust that his experience will continue to help guide NYFRF for many years to come. Thank you for remembering the ministry of New Yorker’s Family Research Foundation in your prayer life. |

We are finding that our base is shifting, and many of our supporters are requesting an electronic version of the publication. At NYFRF, we are excited that we will be offering a digital edition of the newspaper known as Freedoms’ e-Alert in 2010. If we have your e-mail address, be watching your inbox; you will soon be receiving the online version in addition to the print edition. If we do not have your e-mail, please
