| Power in the Pulpit's Inaugural Debut |

On Thursday, June 19, 2008, Power in the Pulpit made its inaugural debut at the New York State Capitol.
The papers reported that there were over 250 evangelical ministers in attendance, but photographic evidence as well as registration records indicates that there was actually over 400 ministers in attendance. It was thrilling to see Black, White and Hispanic pastors from Buffalo to Brooklyn all standing side by side in support of marriage between a man and a woman. We should mention that the 400 ministers attending Power in the Pulpit were all evangelicals; we didn’t even count the hundreds of Catholic priests, Jewish Rabbis and other religious leaders that also support the traditional definition of marriage. We knew that we made quite a stir when Empire State Pride Agenda (New York’s largest homosexual lobbying organization) felt the need to respond late Thursday evening with their list of 335 clergy and “lay leaders” in support of same-sex marriage. On behalf of the majority of New Yorkers across this state, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms presented Senator Serphin Maltese (R – Queens) and Rev. Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr. (D – Bronx) with 15,575 petitions in support of traditional marriage. The halls outside the Senate lobby were lined with dozens of pastors holding signs that read, “Thank you, Senators” and “Stand Firm for Traditional Marriage”. It should be noted that a small contingency of Family Planning Advocates (Planned Parenthood’s lobbying arm) were also in the Senate halls that day, but apparently they went into retreat after our pastors took a stand for truth! It was a tremendous day and God certainly gave us the victory! Already there are pastors asking, "When can we come back?" Ministers, stay tuned and be prepared to mobilize. |
